Parrott Barrel Cannon

Parrott Barrel Cannon
Parrott rifles were distinct with their cast iron barrel with wrought iron reinforcing band. First adopted in May 1861, the Parrott rifle could fire projectiles effectively to 2000 yards.

Made in a foundry across the Hudson River from West Point, the confederacy first guns were brought to Virginia just before secession, others were captured during the Battle of Bull Run. Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond began to produce copies and the Parrott rifle was extensively in service in both armies.
